A brilliant quilt chat on Soft Bulk

November 10, 2021 Leah Thomason Bromberg

What a great afternoon spent with some splendid makers! Don’t worry if you missed us on November 9 – the conversation is on Youtube.

I joined Zak Foster, Heidi Parkes, and Luke Haynes for Soft Bulk, an ongoing conversation investigating and celebrating the unique qualities of quilts, including: flexibility, sculpture, softness, and cultural context. You’ll see Zak's Moon Mandala quilt; Heidi's woodworking with her dad inspired by my book (!), a gallery exhibition, a quilt for her sweetheart, and a new-format scrap quilt workshop; and Luke's giving quilts away with his wife Nicole, in connection with her affirmation project. I get to share a bit about my own history of collecting, writing, and my love for quilts.

You can see Heidi’s and Luke’s quilts alongside some from my collection at the Iowa Quilt Museum in Here Comes the Sun through 23 January 2022 – curated by none other than Joe Cunningham!

Thank you for having me, Soft Bulk!
